My take on Acute Otitis Media (AOM) Disease

I remember when we were still a child. Namimingi sya minsan, laging may sipon at madaling mairita. My mom treat my little sister’s ear problem using “Agua Oxinada”. I’m not actually advising everyone to do the same in such cases. Its just that ganun yung ginagawa ng mom ko, but I never know what could be the side effects.
Recently I attended a prescon about AOM or Acute Otitis Media. At first I have no idea what it is but According to them AOM is a worldwide disease where 3 out of 4 children suffers from such before they reach the age of 3. Ang AOM ay isang viral disease at nasa rank 8th ito na leading cause of hearing loss, delayed speech and also mental development amongst Filipino Children. The main reason is because sinisira ng virus ang mga integral part ng tenga kaya nagdudulot ito ng hearing problem at eventually loss of its sense in hearing na mag-cacause ng delayed speech at delayed mental development.
The Symptoms of AOM  are the following:
-Irritability
-Fever
-Vomiting
-Red bulging eardrum

That is why Dr. Generoso “Gene” Abes, Director – Philippines National Ear Institute, National Institute of Health Manila and a Professor – College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila head of otitis media group decided to come up with a medical handbook, that is a first of its kind, titled “ACUTE OTITIS MEDIA IN CHILDREN: CURRENT EVIDENCED BASED RECOMMENDATION FOR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS 2013”
It also includes alternative ways or medications.  Truly, such disease shouldn’t just be ignored. Lets all make efforts in preventing an unknown disease that can damage the future of our kids.
