DIY: Make your own Pesto Paste even without food processor!

I just want to share about this Pesto Paste I made earlier, so for those who really love this Holy Herb we can now achieve it even without food processor!

History & Benefits of Basil:

The king of herbs Basil is one of the oldest and popular herbal plants brimming with notable health-benefiting phytonutrients. This highly prized plant is revered as "holy herb" in many traditions all around the world.

  • Basil herb contains a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids, which helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.

  • Vitamin K in basil is essential for many coagulant factors in the blood and plays a vital role in the bone strengthening function by helping mineralization process in the bones.

  • Basil herb contains exceptionally high levels of beta-carotene, vitamin A, cryptoxanthin, lutein and zea-xanthin. These compounds help act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging and various disease processes.

  • The herbs' parts are very low in calories and contain no cholesterol, but are very rich source of many essential nutrients, minerals, and vitamins that are required for optimum health.

  • Basil leaves compose of several health benefiting essential oils such as eugenol, citronellol, linalool, citral, limonene and terpineol. These compounds are known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

  • Basil herb contains many polyphenolic flavonoids like orientin and vicenin. These compounds were tested in-vitro laboratory for their possible anti-oxidant protection against radiation-induced lipid per-oxidation in mouse liver. (courtesy of Wikipedia)

Btw! you can customize you own Pesto by adding or removing some ingredients

      • Fresh basil leaves (packed)
      • Garlic (4 cloves minced)
      • Olive Oil (1/2 cup)
      • Pepper
      • Parmesan Cheese

Some of them add lemon and pine nuts, but in my part I only have this, so let’s make the best out of it. :)

First, I minced the garlic, then set it aside. This is the main part which is slicing the basil into small particles and I tell you, it’s not that easy, it took me (I think) 1/2 hours. (While watching TWD0504 Lol!)

Just wipe the basil leaves using a clean cloth or tissue to clean it, put it in a bowl then start slicing them using clean scissors. Make sure you slice them into small particles so that you can achieve like the processed one.

Once you’re done, put the minced garlic together with nicely sliced basil. Use spoon to stir, then add Pepper and Parmesan cheese and lastly, slowly add olive oil and give it a good stir.

Mix it on a newly cooked pasta stirs and Enjoy! But if you want to store it, place it on a clean jar and put it on your refrigerator.

There you have it DIY Pesto Paste without using food processor nailed it!
